Realism *NEW
In this class, we’ll dive head-first into the world of realistic painting with acrylics.
Supporting artists from the ground-up, this course builds foundational skills in form, value and colour, with learners gaining familiarity in the handling of acrylic paint.
With a focus on light and shade, the course will begin by creating a value study of our reference. With a clear understanding of our form, we’ll then render a finished painting, using a limited palette.
Learners will come away with a full-colour portrait and a nuanced understanding of colour and light. Though some experience in painting is ideal, this class is beginner friendly.

Intro to colour + palette MIXING
In this class, students will explore the fundamentals of colour, tone, shade and value-essential elements for discovering your own unique artistic voice. If you’ve ever found your palette to be muddy, this class will help you match your reference images with greater ease.
This class will enable you to mix nearly any colour you desire. You’ll learn how to approach each new artwork with a fresh perspective and select colours to achieve your intended results. We will also look into preparing different painting surfaces, paint mixing, mediums, varnishes, upscaling work and how to create a good composition. For returning students, we’ll build upon your existing techniques and painting skills throughout the term. In the final sessions, you will use your own personally developed palette to create original pieces equipping you with tools to further enhance your colour knowledge.
This class is for beginners as well as those who wish to revisit the basics to revitalise their work. We will discuss all of these paints, brushes and other supplies in week one, so if you do not have everything on the first day it is fine.

You’ll explore sketchbook formats, pens, paints and inks, and experiment with different ways to get marks on the page.
