Japanese ink

Sumi-e is the ancient art of Japanese brush painting. Traditionally, paintings feature subjects from nature, such as flowers and birds.

You will learn to feel and capture the meaning of objects from nature with your interpretation then you will express the objects variously with brush pressure, rhythm, tones and confidence in your strokes. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also meditative practice.

The experience of Sumi-e brings a sense of peace and harmony to the artist, and finished artworks are created to arouse the same sense of joy and tranquility in the viewer.

All materials including brushes included

Beginners Watercolour

In this four-week course, we will explore the basics of watercolour, from the materials and supplies you need to get started to simple painting techniques you can use in your own work.

Watercolour offers a sense of freedom that allows students to express their creativity through its unique characteristics and transparent colours. The translucent nature of watercolour, which allows the white of the paper to show through, encourages artists to play with light and value and to build depth through layering.

Whether you are an aspiring artist or simply looking to re-energise your creativity, this beginner course provides a welcoming space to learn, experiment and be inspired.
